Thanks to all the little Little Pickers for putting smiles on so many faces with all that candy and to the big Little Pickers for taking away all that trash! It was nice to see so many familiar faces and receive so many thank you’s . We live in such a great community and days like that are the perfect reminder of that. Thank you Lynn Valley and we’ll see you all on Canada Day!
Thank you to all the new families that came out to support our Delbrook Park clean-up yesterday! It was great to meet all of you and I would like to extend a special thanks to Ema Wilson Visagie for promoting us in the North Van Rec Community Events flyer. The kids did a great job, collected lots of trash and even found a few sporting good treasures to take home! I wanted to draw some attention to what I found on the corner on West Windsor Rd and Delbrook Ave; a portable recycling bag set up by a thoughtful resident and there was actually recycling in it! What a fantastic idea!! Great work Little Pickers, stay tuned for our next community clean-up!
Sometimes, on those rare occasions, there is more than just garbage to pick up. Well, technically golf balls are garbage when left in the bushes to sink into the dirt but for kids, it’s better than Easter. Yes, we picked up our fair share of trash out of those bushes but I’m pretty sure the squeals of delight each time one of the little white treasurers was spotted was heard all over the neighbourhood. 32 golf balls in all and the only way to pry the kids from the prickles bushes and muck was the promise to return another day and find more. Sure, I’ll make that deal because by the time that day rolls around I’m fairly certain that ditch and those bushes will be littered with coffee cups and pizza boxes all over again…
Happy New Year Little Pickers!

We’ve had a brief website breakdown but we’re back!!! We’ve had our September clean-up in the Park & Tilford area this past Sunday. The rain held off for us and although there wasn’t as much garbage on the ground as anticipated the majority of the trash we collected were coffee cups. With Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Bean Around the World and McDonald’s all in close proximity to this area, it’s amazing how many cups we collected, astounding. Besides picking up trash, we spent some time unclogging some backed up storm drains! All in all the kids had a good time! Stay tuned for our October clean-up and some exciting news regarding The Action League from 102.7 The Peak FM Vancouver coming to help us clean-up the Maplewood area!
It was a beautiful Vancouver day and the perfect setting for the annual Canada Day Parade! We had a great crew of kids handing out candy and an equally great crew of parents collecting the trash! It’s quite awe inspiring to see a good majority of the community lining several blocks (in some places 4 or 5 people deep) mainly wearing red and white and all really excited about throwing their garbage away, in particular the kids, which was especially pleasing. A big thank you goes out to The Black’s, The Hollow’s, The Devlin’s, The Falorni’s and their extended family from Italy and, of course, Great Canadian Landscaping for again inviting us along for the ride. Happy Birthday Canada!
Just a reminder that the last Little Picker’s meeting before we break for summer will be this Saturday, June 22nd at 10am. We will meet near the pier at John Lawson Park in West Vancouver and work our way along the beach and surrounding area! Looking forward to seeing you there!
Do you have a child(ren) 2 years or older? Do you want to do something good for your community? Come spend a few hours with us once a month, help to clean up our streets and teach your kids the importance of keeping our environment litter free. We provide “pickers” for the kids, along with garbage bags and safety vests for safe garbage collection. We meet once a month and during our clean-ups we educate the kids on why it is important to keep our streets clean and how the garbage impacts our environment. But, what is the best part? The kids love it!!! We are always looking for new members so please sign up today by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or ‘like’ our Little Pickers Facebook page.
